Genetic Lineage of OG Kush CBD
The OG, OG Kush stepped into the spotlight in the early 90s, as a simply stunning result of crossing California’s ChemDawg with Hindu Kush from Amsterdam.
Having been bred in Florida, it was taken over to California in 1996 where it was bred with Bubba, and just about everything else the west coast had to offer back then. As you’d expect from such a legendary strain, it has fathered and grandfathered countless famous west coast strains, including Bubba Kush (OG Kush x The Bubba), Headband (OG Kush x Master Kush x Sour Diesel), Abacus (OG Kush x Purple Urkle), and Girl Scout Cookies (OG Kush x Durban Poison).
In fact, as the original Kush strain, if you’re looking at a strain with OG or Kush in its name, it’s fairly likely that OG Kush is in that strain’s lineage at some point down the line.
It was only when the popularity of hemp flower started to take off that OG Kush was crossed with an elite hemp strain to produce the OG Kush CBD strain. A beautiful strain that retains all of the sought-after characteristics from its papa (looks, smell, taste), but with a cannabinoid profile similar to its CBD momma, or maybe OG Kush was the momma… Who knows?
OG Kush CBD Flower Strain Review
In order to be classified as a hemp flower strain and therefore be legal under federal law, your OG Kush needs to contain less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC. Some OG Kush CBD flower contains a 1:1 ratio of THC and CBD, in which case it’s classed as a cannabis strain and should only be purchased in states where cannabis is medically or recreationally legal.
Always check that your CBD hemp flower vendor can provide you with a third-party lab report that verifies the total cannabinoid content. Please note that the total amount of THC may be slightly higher than 0.03% as it also takes Delta 8 THC into account. What you need to look for is the percentage of Delta 9 THC specifically.
Effects
OG Kush CBD effects are wide ranging and potent. The original OG Kush has long been known for its powerful medicinal properties and this CBD-rich version seems to be carving out a similar reputation.

With notes of diesel, cinnamon, and fruity citrus, capturing your senses at first, only to be overtaken by an earthy, piney, musk, followed by a diesel rerun. Describing it just doesn’t do it justice as it sounds like it’s all over the place, but it’s simply sublime.

Aroma
You don’t need to put your nose to the bag to get a sense of this strain’s aromas, because it will come to you as soon as the bag’s airlock is released. The aroma is bright and faintly floral, with citrus and sweetgrass.
Visuals
This strain grows short and dense, which is great for growers as they can achieve bigger yields in smaller spaces, but it does mean that 3.5g of this flower will probably look smaller than the 3.5g bag of another strain you bought.
OG Kush CBD buds are tightly clustered nugs of vivid green, with orange pistols interspersed. If you like a bud that sparkles then OG Kush is your gal as her trichome expression is positively aggressive. She could be the poster child of cannabis.
