Vaping offers a world of options
If you’re relatively new to the world of vaping, then you might be surprised to find out just how much choice you have when it comes to finding the best vaping device to suit your needs.
In this article we’ll take a closer look what a disposable vape pen is, what benefits they offer the user, as well as what you should consider when you’re shopping for one.
What’s vaping?

However, it’s not as clear cut as it seems, as you’ll see in my article vaping vs smoking, vaping carries health risks of its own, but many people quite smoking in favor of vaping due to the perception that it’s a healthier option.
Another reason that some people enjoy vaping over smoking is that vaping can offer a more customized experience. Some vaping devices feature temperature settings and the fact that different cannabinoids and terpenes reach their boiling points at different temperatures, vaping at different temperatures can allow the user to achieve a slightly different vaping experience each time.
Vaping also produces hardly any odor and is therefore a lot more discreet than smoking.
How do vape pens work?
A vape pen is a fairly simple device consisting of a battery, heating chamber, and mouthpiece. The vape battery powers the heating chamber, which heats up the oil within it (or flower or concentrate), which then creates the vapor for you to inhale through the mouthpiece.
What are disposable vapes?
Disposable vapes are highly convenient vaping devices that can be used straight out of the box. They come pre-charged and pre-filled with vape liquid, and they’re usually buttonless, meaning you don’t even need to learn how to use a vape pen, because all you have to do to operate them is put your mouth to the mouthpiece and draw.
A disposable vape pen cannot be recharged or refilled, so once it’s used up it needs to be thrown away. So, as with all disposable products they are highly wasteful and being made of mixed materials, are also a recycling headache.
What’s the difference between a vape and a disposable?
If you come across a vaping device that isn’t labelled as disposable, then it’s probably safe to assume that it’s rechargeable. Rechargeable vape batteries can either be paired with disposable or refillable carts.
Refillable vs disposable carts
Disposable vape carts are hugely popular and affordable, but refillable carts are more economical, as well as the most environmentally-friendly option.
If you vape with disposable carts, then you just need to take it out of the packaging, connect it to your battery, and then throw it away when it’s finished.
When you have a refillable cart, you need to buy a bottle of CBD vape oil to refill it with each time and you also need to clean the cartridge and battery from time to time.
Apart from being more affordable and environmentally sound, refillable carts also offer the user more opportunity for customization. You can tailor-make your own vaping juice to create your very own customized vape carts.
It’s not always possible to find disposable carts that contain the exact cannabinoid and terpene combo (and ratio) that you want, so why not experiment with making your own? Just make sure you do your research first, to help ensure safe ingredient selection.
How many hits do you get out of a disposable vape pen?
How many hits or puffs you’ll get out of a disposable vape pen will be largely dependent on two factors.
- How much vape liquid the disposable vape holds (most are between 0.5ml and 2ml)
- How experienced the user is and/or how deeply they inhale
It’s estimated that a standard 1ml vape cartridge will yield around 200-400 puffs. So, a smaller 0.5ml vape pen should offer 150 puffs or so before running out and a large 2ml disposable vape may produce anywhere between 400-800 hits.
Why use a disposable vape pen?
Although they are terribly wasteful and unkind to the environment, disposable vapes are still hugely popular because of the convenience and ease of use they offer the user. The fact that they are ready to use straight out of the box means that you can start vaping right away and you don’t need to ever charge or clean it.
Disposable vapes are an ideal way for new vapers to try out vaping, to see whether they enjoy it, before committing to a more permanent, reusable device. A vaping newbie may also want to try out a variety of different disposable vape pens too, before finding the style and size that suits them best.
Things to keep in mind when shopping for a disposable vape pen
Here are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for a disposable vape pen.
1. How much CBD is in a single pen?
As mentioned previously, the dose size varies depending on the type and size of the pen. The majority of disposable vapes feature a 1ml cartridge, containing 1g (1000mg) of CBD. But you should check before you buy as it’s also possible to find disposable vapes with 0.5ml cartridges, as well as 2ml carts. So, when you’re looking at your options, then make sure you factor the cart size and cannabinoid content into the price variations.
2. What is your budget?
You can buy a disposable CBD vape pen for as little as $30-35 (this would include 500mg CBD). If you’re on a budget, then you can save yourself a bit of money by buying multiple pens at once, or invest in a rechargeable battery ($10-15) and then disposable CBD vape carts will set you back around $25-30 per 1000mg of CBD.
3. Do they have third-party lab testing?
As with all CBD products, you should check that the vendor can supply you with a third-party lab report that not only verifies the products potency, but also its purity. Reputable and honorable companies should be willing to pay a couple of hundred dollars to verify that their vape is safe to consume.
An independent lab report can show you that the product has been tested for pesticides, microbials, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and residual solvents, and that it passed these tests.
