Some of you who come to CBD School or watch our YouTube channel is interested in learning as much as you can about cannabinoids and all of the benefits they can have for your life.
Others are too busy and simply want to know how they can find the best CBD hemp oil.
That’s why I made the guide you are about to read. This is an easy guide on what to look for if you want to find the best CBD hemp oil.
I hope it will help you find what you are looking for.
The Best CBD Hemp Oil – What to look for
1. Full Plant Extract
There are around 500 different compounds found in the cannabis plant.
These are the primary cannabinoids like CBD and THC, secondary cannabinoids like CBC and CBG, the aromatic terpenes, and unique flavonoids only found in cannabis.
Research has demonstrated that these compounds have a synergistic relationship known as the entourage effect.
These compounds work best when they are taken together as opposed to when taken in isolation.
This is why full-plant extract CBD oils are better than CBD isolates.
To get a maximal entourage effect, look for a CBD hemp oil that is made from a full-plant extract.
This will ensure that in addition to CBD, the tincture contains a small amount of THC, secondary cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids.
2. High Resin Hemp Plants
There are two kinds of hemp plants: low resin true industrial hemp plants and high resin CBD rich hemp plants.
They are both bits of hemp because they are cannabis plants that contain no more than 0.3% THC by dry weight but their functions are different.
Low resin hemp plants are ideal for fiber and seed production.
High resin hemp plants are ideal for CBD oil production.
This is because the resin is where the CBD and other beneficial compounds are found in the cannabis plant.
High resin hemp plants produce the therapeutic compounds needed to make a high-quality CBD hemp oil.
That’s not to say that low resin hemp does not contain CBD — it does — just not anywhere as much as high resin hemp.
High resin hemp can contain up to 4 times the amount of CBD as low resin hemp.
Most high resin hemp is being grown in America.
This is why we recommend you stick to CBD oil made from American hemp and grown in hemp friendly states like Colorado and Kentucky.
The CBD hemp oil products made from overseas hemp isn’t bad but I don’t think it’s anywhere as rich in cannabinoids, beneficial terpenes, and flavonoids as the CBD oil is made from high resin hemp plants grown in America.
3. Labs, Labs, and more Labs
I can’t stress enough how important it is that you get your CBD hemp oil from companies that provide you with up to date and detailed third-party lab reports of the CBD hemp oil you are using.
The labs should tell you:
- Exactly how much CBD is in the oil
- How much THC and other cannabinoids are in the oil. This is important because you need to make sure the oil doesn’t have too much THC (no more than 0.3%) as that could make it an illegal product.
- What terpenes are in the oil and in what concentrations. The presence of different terpenes can alter the effects of the oil and you want to know which terpenes work best for you.
- That the oil is free of toxins, mold, and pesticides.
The labs should be as recent as possible. Most companies test their products in batches.
You will sometimes be able to match the batch # on your CBD hemp oil bottle to the exact lab report of that batch.
The hemp plant is an excellent bioaccumulator. That means it cleans up the soil by absorbing toxins.
That’s great for the soil but not so great for you if those toxics are ending up in your CBD hemp oil.
That’s why you need to insist on seeing a detailed lab report so that you can ensure the product you are using is free from any toxins.
It’s the same as anyone who takes fish oil supplements should make sure their fish oil is free of mercury or any other toxin.
4. Clean and safe extraction
Get a CBD hemp oil which was made with a clean extraction process.
The extraction process is the method that was used to remove the CBD and other compounds from the hemp plant.
There are multiple ways to extract CBD including CO2, butane, and alcohol extraction.
The current industry standard and the one which is considered to be the cleanest extraction method is CO2 extraction.
CO2 extraction creates a clean product that is safe to use and preserves the beneficial terpenes and flavonoids of the hemp plant.
Other extraction methods like alcohol extraction are also good but I don’t know as much about those as CO2.
I recommend you only go with companies who are transparent about how they do their extraction.
In the future, CO2 extraction may be replaced with an even better method but at the time of this writing, it’s considered to be the best and cleanest method of extraction as well as one which also preserves the beneficial compounds of the cannabis plant.
5. A company you can speak to
While CBD hemp oil companies can’t make medical claims about CBD, that doesn’t mean they can’t answer your questions and help you decide on which product is best for your needs.
This is an industry in its early stages. There are more questions than answers and you may be confused about which is the best product for you.
Make sure you go with a company who will communicate with you either over the phone or via email and help you get your questions answered.
Bonus: Organically Grown CBD Hemp Oil
While few producers have USDA organic certification, that doesn’t mean that CBD companies aren’t growing their plants organically.
Talk to companies and check out their websites to see if they are growing organic hemp.
Organic growing practices are just extra assurance that the CBD hemp oil will be a clean and safe product.
If you stick to this guide, I am positive you will be able to find a great CBD hemp oil.
I hope this helps you.
