All those who have ever smoked, whether regular tobacco products or cannabis, must have heard, at some point, of vaping. Aside from being considered as a healthier alternative to tobacco smoking, like cigars and cigarettes, and a mode of delivery for cannabinoids, vaping has been under the radar for a while. Why? Very simple. Everyone wants to try this new cool vapor forming device that helps them stay away from the hundreds of toxic chemicals regular smoking delivers.

What makes vaping more special than other smoking methods is that you can have a whole wide selection of flavors! When you vape, you include in your device a liquid that is a mixture including flavored essential oils, waxes, and nicotine-free cartridges. Since the legalization of CBD, and what people are not probably aware of is that you can vape CBD oil. That’s right, the liquid version of this cannabis product doesn’t just come in the form of oral drops, it can be inhaled.

Nowadays, a lot of people might prefer vaping for many reasons, whether because they find it practical or maybe pleasurable. You may want to use a vaporizer for your CBD oil because it feels more authentic. You might even be a smoker trying to quit, but still want to hang out with your smokers friends at work. If you are a smoker, you may also want to check our guide on CBD cigarette pre-rolls. You may even resort to vaping because you are not into the taste or consistency of CBD oil drops.

Whatever your reason is, vaping can be a solid option. But if you’re new to this, which we assume you are, you would want to know how can someone be vaping the CBD oil;  and, more importantly, how it will make him or her feel.

What is CBD Vape Oil?

Most of the CBD oil we write about comes from hemp plants. It is known as the CBD hemp oil. Due to its non-intoxicating properties, you can purchase CBD hemp oil from a variety of retailers in all 50 states, without a prescription.

What sets CBD vape oil apart from its oral alternative is the delivery method. Typically, the oil comes in cartridges or in refill bottles, depending on the equipment, that are smoked through a vaporizer. It is as simple as that.

Of course, retailers have taken full advantage of the vaping trend. They tried to make the experience as tasty as possible. That is the reason why you find a large variety of different flavors for your CBD oil. These can deliver the desired effect with an awesome flavor. Fruit flavors are very popular, but there’s really no end to your choices and it all depends on where you shop.

What is a Vaporizer?

A vaporizer is a tool that allows the user to heat up the contents of the vape liquid and converts them into vapor ready for inhaling. There’s more than one type of vaporizer on the market. Some are specifically made to be used with oil, while others are designed for smoking plant matter (cannabis and other dry herbs) or wax. Some vaporizers, that are very expensive, can be used with all three vapes. So, it all depends on your budget.

If you are a beginner and are starting vaping new; then, it’s best to start simple.

Vape Pens

If you are looking for something discreet, portable, and cheap, then vape pens are your ideal choice. These can range in price from as little as $30 U.S. while still effectively deliver the CBD you need.

So, how do they work? Despite their simple appearance, these little gadgets are fairly complex. They function by using several different components. Regardless of the vaporizer you choose, pen or otherwise, the formula is the same and fits all.

First, we have the mouthpiece, which is the part of the pen that you put in your mouth in order to inhale the vapor.

Next, there’s the tank. This could refer to a physical tank that you refill with liquid, or a slot for disposable pre-filled cartridges. The tank holds the liquid that will be heated up and smoked.

The third component is called the atomizer that is simply a small heater  similar to the convection electric parts on most stoves. They increase the temperature of the oil turning it into vapor. Some vaporizers allow you to control the temperature, while the heat on basic ones, like pens, can’t be adjusted.

For more information on vape pens, see our article: CBD Vape Pens: A Beginner’s Guide to Vaping Devices

At What Temperature Does CBD Vaporize?

If you can afford it, a vaporizer with an adjustable temperature setting is preferable. In that case, it might be handy to know how much heat is perfect. According to a study from BioMed Central, they were able to vaporize CBD at “210°C and 230°C” (410°F to 446°F), with the latter yielding the highest concentration of CBD vapor.

It is critical for vaporizers to pick up when it is hot or in use, which is why they contain sensors. Depending on the type of vape you use, you either activate the vapor by inhaling or with a switch or button that you turn on and off to cause the heating. Either way, sensors are responsible for determining whether or not the user is inhaling, or if the on/off button (or heat amount) is being toggled.

Finally, vaporizers can’t function without a battery. But, they don’t use regular disposable batteries, but rather a lithium-ion rechargeable built right in. Typically, these come with USB chargers that you can plug into a computer or USB wall adapter.

How Does Vaping CBD Feel (CBD Vape Oil Effects)?

Common sense would dictate that taking CBD through any medium would ultimately achieve the same thing, but it’s not that simple. The delivery method does ultimately make a difference.

Unfortunately, there hasn’t been enough research about the effects of CBD vaping on health and the body. Consequently, the information in this area is mostly anecdotal.

Fortunately, we have a lot of anecdotal evidence because vaping happens to be one of the top ways that people like to use CBD. People who vape CBD report that it helps them relax, decrease anxiety, and mitigate pain. One of the main reasons people prefer vaping CBD is due to its fast delivery system: the user will start feeling the effects fast.

Vaping CBD provides the fastest onset of CBD effects.

Benefits of Vaping CBD – Efficiency

Out of all the available delivery methods including oral, topical, sublingual ingestion, vaping CBD is the most efficient manner of cannabidiol intake

So why is vaping more efficient? The answer comes down to human biology. CBD, like any compound, needs to reach certain receptors (called cannabinoid receptors) inside your brain and body. So, the CBD has to reach your bloodstream. Ingesting the chemical takes longer because it passes through your digestive system to be metabolized by your liver before finally dispersing in your bloodstream.

The lungs, on the other hand, work differently. The whole CBD process has the same mechanism of the air we breathe. Whatever you breathe in,  passes through your trachea going down the larynx and reaching your lungs where it goes through membranes, and  gets to your blood. So, that’s what makes the inhalation delivery more direct and, therefore, much faster1. You can even compare the CBD intake route as such: through your digestive system, it is a two-lane road, while through your lungs (and vaping), it is a four-lane express highway.

But, despite the speed of action, CBD effects from vaping do not last as long as with oral ingestion. This isn’t a problem for most users as they will simply keep add the dose more often when vaping CBD.

Benefits of Vaping CBD – Convenience

Another benefit of vaping CBD oil is the convenience and portability of the equipment used to inject the substance.

Vaping is easy…all you need is CBD vape oil and a vaporizer to vape it.

All vapes have certain components in common that help them to operate.

Those components are a battery, heating element, the mouthpiece, and a compartment to hold the oils you will be inhaling.

What is great about these devices is that they are small enough to fit into your pocket or purse. Vaping has a widespread popularity and people are unlikely to question you about the substance you are vaping or why you are taking it.

Unlike smoking cigarettes, vaping can be discreet as it doesn’t give off a strong smell.

Additionally, vaping create little smoke, when compared to traditional cigarettes, or others used to ingest substances.

Many vape indoors. Make sure to check your local laws to ensure that when you are vaping in a public place where it is permitted to vape or smoke.

Concluding Remarks

There’s no right or wrong way to take CBD hemp oil. while some like tinctures or edible products, others prefer to vape it. If you’re unsure what you might prefer, it can’t hurt to try different products and methods. But for those who enjoy smoking in general, vaporizers might be a perfect fit and with relatively lower negative health impacts.

As always, don’t get into CBD without consulting a doctor. While there’s no clear cut evidence that this product can pose adverse effects on your health, it never hurts to be precautious.

It is essential to note that vaping, despite being healthier than tobacco smoking, can still contain harmful ingredients that can have some damages on the body. It is always essential to refer to your doctor before starting vaping. Also, most health professionals advise people to take CBD in other routes than vaping, unless you are using the nicotine-free natural vape.

Note from CBD School: Due to the impact of the corona virus, we encourage those who vape to reconsider their decisions. Vaping has shown to be an aggravating factor for people who are infected with the virus. Read more here. When in doubt — do not put it in your lungs!
