Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is flourishing as the world’s most wanted supplement for all types of ailments and issues. Having said that, the most prevalent reason people are choosing CBD is to help alleviate pain. CBD oil for pain relief has gained so much popularity, people are using it for all sorts of pain, from minor aches to more severe cases of chronic pain.
CBD for Pain, Aches and Stiffness
Although many are using CBD for pain relief, is there any evidence that suggests it can help? As a matter of fact, research is slowly catching up with the CBD craze, and the results are looking promising.
A review is suggesting that high-quality CBD oil can help even in the cases of chronic pain.
There is even more evidence supporting the use of CBD for potentially reducing inflammation. And as we know very well, inflammation causes us to feel pain in lots of ailments.
CBD may be potentially useful for relieving pain caused by a number of different issues. Here are some of the most popular reasons people use CBD oil for pain relief:
- Persistent migraines/isolated headaches
- Arthritic joints
- Fibromyalgia
- Upset stomach
- Muscle pain/muscle recovery
- Other everyday pains and aches.
How to Accurately Dose Yourself With CBD Oil
Many CBD products can be simple to dose. For example, with CBD gummies you can easily read the packet and know how much CBD is in each gummy.
However, CBD oil or CBD tinctures can be a little more tricky to dose. CBD oil usually comes in a bottle and can be administered using a dropper. Each bottle of CBD oil contains different potencies of CBD. We recommend you read the bottle for instructions on how much is the recommended dose.
However, there are some general tips we can give you to ensure that you are dosing yourself correctly.
Measure Your CBD by Potency Before You Buy It
The first tip is that you should measure your CBD oil by CBD potency, not just by how much the bottle contains. Usually, a bottle of CBD oil informs you how much CBD is in the bottle in milligrams. However, a 10 ml bottle with 1,000 mg of CBD is considerably more potent than a 50 ml bottle with 1,000 mg of CBD. This means you will need to consume more from the 50 ml bottle than the 10 ml bottle to feel the same effects. You should know this before you buy CBD oil so you know exactly what you are getting.
With this in mind, what is CBD potency? CBD potency means the percentage of CBD in the bottle. The same as the alcohol percentage in whiskey is higher than in a bottle of wine. The higher the potency, the fewer drops you will need to feel the sought after effects.
Calculate the Amount of CBD in Each Drop of Your CBD Oil
Each dropper included with CBD oil will drop roughly the same. One drop of CBD oil is about 0.05 ml. This means that in every 1 ml of CBD oil there are about 20 drops.
Now you can calculate how many drops are in a bottle:
- 10 ml bottles contain around 200 drops
- 30 ml bottles contain around 600 drops
- 50 ml bottles contain around 1000 drops
Now it is time to dust off your primary school maths skills. It is time to divide!
Divide the amount of CBD in the bottle (e.g. 1000 mg) by the number of drops in the bottle (e.g. 200 drops in a 10 ml bottle). There is 5 mg of CBD in each drop from this bottle.
Use Our Guide to Accurately Dose Yourself
This is when you’re ready to dose yourself. If you are a newcomer we recommend you start off low and work up to a stronger dose if necessary. If you are unsure, then it is best that you dose yourself by weight. And luckily we have a guide to help:
- If you weigh between 6 and 10 stone, a mild dose would be 10 mg and a strong dose would be 20 mg.
- For people that weigh between 10 and 15 stone, we recommend that they should take low doses of 20 mg and high doses of 30 mg.
- And for others who are heavier than 15 stone, we advise them to take mild doses of 25 mg and high doses of 40 mg.
If you want to take a 20 mg dose, and you have calculated that there is 5 mg in each drop, then 4 drops should be sufficient.
Although this is usually quite an accurate guide, it is essential to note that it may not work for you. Each person is different and CBD tolerance varies from person to person.
What Happens When You Take Too Much CBD?
Fortunately, we, humans, can tolerate CBD very well. A review of the safety of CBD supports that the compound is generally safe to consume. Side effects are not severe and not regularly felt. Some common side effects include:
- Drowsiness/fatigue
- Changes in appetite
- Diarrhoea
What Happens When You Take Too Little CBD?
As it is possible to consume too much CBD, you can very easily consume too little. If you do not consume enough, then it is certain the CBD won’t help with your pain.
Considering this, it is important to find your sweet spot. A CBD dosage that may help alleviate your pain but doesn’t cause you to feel drowsy.
Seek Advice From Your Doctor
Last but not least, we advise that you talk to your doctor before you start using CBD for pain. Your doctor knows your health situation best of all and can give you advice specific to you.
Your doctor should have an understanding of CBD and may be able to help. It is also particularly important, you discuss with your doctor about using CBD especially if you are taking any other medications.
