What Causes Libido Pain?
Though low libido can occur for any number of personal and physical reasons, it is most often the result of one of two things: psychology and aging. For women, low libido often cooccurs with bouts of depression and anxiety, family stressors, financial problems and relationship issues. Past traumas — both related and unrelated to sexual encounters — may also cause low sex drive.
Aging is the second most commonly cited reason for libido pain. Hormonal changes — particularly, the drop in testosterone levels — in men between the ages of 40 and 70 significantly affect their ability to obtain an erection. A recent study of sexual desire in women revealed that as many as 52% of women who have gone through menopause report a low sex drive.
How CBD Works With Libido
The role of CBD in improving sexual desire has not been fully researched. However, given the psychological case for low libido — and the fact that blood vessels and libido are intimately connected — many people are looking to CBD as a viable solution for libido pain.
CBD can help to alleviate symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression and improve feelings of overall well-being, all of which can lead to increased sexual desire. In fact, one study found that 68% of people who tried CBD for sexual desire reported better sexual experiences due to increased relaxation and improved mood. Individuals who used CBD before sex also reported increased confidence, which may also lead to increased sexual desire. As for CBD and hormonal changes, while CBD cannot undo the effects of aging, it can increase blood flow throughout the body. As a vasodilator, CBD has been proven to increase blood flow to the vessels near the part of the body to which it is applied. Though the research is still out on the subject, the theory is that, if a topical ointment is applied to the genitals, it may support the body’s arousal capacity.
