Researchers concluded that cannabinoid use showed “statistically and clinically significant improvement” for symptoms of insomnia.4
  • In a small-scale study of 103 adults investigating the effects of CBD for sleep and/or mild anxiety, sleep scores improved within the first month of CBD use for 66.7 percent of study participants. Researchers attributed their findings to a “calming effect in the central nervous system,” but noted that results did fluctuate during the investigation. Of the test subjects reporting mild anxiety symptoms, 79% reported that CBD provided favorable results.5
  • Researchers have also noted that CBD has the potential for improving sleep duration, an effect that could help those who frequently wake during the night. Researchers compared CBD to a placebo and the insomnia medication nitrazepam. CBD servings of 40, 80, and 160 mg all showed favorable results.6
  • In a survey conducted by Project CBD, survey participants reported a significant reduction in the amount of time it took them to fall asleep, reducing that time from 62 to 20 minutes. Respondents also reported waking less frequently during the night, reducing that average from waking four times per night to just once when using CBD. Although 79 percent of non-CBD users reported feeling tired when they woke up, only 9 percent of CBD users reported tiredness upon waking.7
